It’s been a fierce year for St. Petersburg Review and it’s culminating at the two-thirds mark with a new publication date in September and an issue chock full of notable reading. Listed below are this issue’s contributors (29) and translators (11

Unsolicited submissions for the 2009 issue will be accepted again between September 1 and January 15. New this year, SPR will only accept electronic submissions. SPR is in the process of installing an electronic submission manager; our submission page will continue to have the most current submission information.
Poetry contest 2008: St. Petersburg Review will again hold its poetry contest with a January 15, 2009 postmark deadline. The winning writer receives a prize of $1000. As with last year’s contest, the editors will consider all entries for publication (see asterisked contributor/entrants above). Watch our events page for complete contest guidelines.
Upcoming (and recent past) events: In 2008, SPR organized and sponsored Aleksandr Skidan readings in New York, Boston and Chicago (January), attended the Blue Met Literary conference in Montreal (April), organized and sponsored a reading by contributors Jeffrey Renard Allen, Josil Novakovich, and Jayne Anne Phillips at KGB Bar in New York City (May)*, and participated in the 2008 Summer Literary Seminars this summer, including 1) moderating five Russian authors (including contributors Arkadii Dragomoshchenko, Dmitry Golynko, and Aleksandr Skidan) on the topic of translation (coming soon as an SPR podcast), and 2) publishing a monograph of SLS founder Mikhail Iossel’s work to commemorate SLS’s tenth year.
Coming up, on September 14, SPR will again have a table at the Brooklyn Book Festival, http://www.brooklynbookfestival.org/. On December 15, St. Petersburg Review sponsors a free stage reading
(Abingdon Theater) of Romulus Linney’s new play, “Love Drunk,” an excerpt of which is published in SPR 2. During February 11 – 14, 2009, SPR will participate in the Chicago AWP Bookfair, http://www.awpwriter.org/conference/.
